Hello Peru Peru, I read somewhere that you’re doing TweePop ! but What’s TweePop ?
j.fo: As you can read on wikipedia (yes thomas fourny is a good friend of mine) ”twee” comes from “sweet” that means “cute”. This term twee pop was used , initially ironically , to name that indie pop scene characterized by jangling guitars, “sweet” melodies and outwardly “innocent” lyrics . Born in the mid 80’s with the likes of rough trade and sarah records in uk, or K records in US, its roots are as well the DIY punk rock scene as 1960’s girl groups. We feel very closed to this aesthetic. Our music is a bit different from all these bands because of the casios and stuff (BS 2000 and the BEASTIE BOYS are a strong influence too). But it’s really where our project came from: how to turn a shady screwed up reality into a happy song , how to celebrate friendship , the joy of being all together even if everything gets wrong . if you pay attention to it, there is often a contradiction in our tracks between the melodies that are very happy and the lyrics that are very sad. This contradiction also appears in our band name “peru peru” that evokes childhood , the lost paradise of the Cities of Gold but which is the name of a MAORI dance war too.
In your last song, MAKE SENS, the lyrics are dealing about “you’re looking for something & someone”……….. but could you tell us more about what is something and who is someone ?
j.fo : well i would say an I Pad and Gauthier Tondeur (yes thomas fourny is a good friend of mine) but you should ask olivier : he is the one who wrote this song. Amelie: We all have been in the forest near Sheffield last april to implore trees about the sens of this lyrics. It was a great experience, but we found no answers. Any help welcome.
Oli : “something” deals with the fact that we all have high expectations about what we are doing on our own… “someone” deals with the fact the we all have high expectations about who could be the ideal crutch to help us doing these things we want to do on our own… ( take a breath ) “Make Sens” is a sad song
You’ve played in New York City ! Explain us what’s different in Europe ?
Amelie: Olivier is very different in Europe, but he’s awesome everywhere.
Oli : Amelie is the perfect girl in Europe, but NYC causes her Burger issues.
Ben : As far as I’m concerned I tried to supersized me in NYC but I didn’t succeed!.. and I didn’t see any weight changes in anyone else from the band.
We know that all of you are desinterested in 2010 World Soccer Cup ! so what are your prognostics for the final ? (and sorry, but Peruvians haven’t been selected)
Amelie: Im’ not desinterested, i love football! Lorient Monaco i bet.
Oli : We don’t care, except Amelie. so we all suffer from Amelie’s passion for football…
